135 Miles in 48 hours, from Selby Abbey to Durham Cathedral!

We did this 135 mile journey to raise over £4000 to 'pay for a day' of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. See our sponsorship page here. Thank you so much to everyone that helped.

!!!!!TRIP REPORT COMING REAL SOON!!!!

It was the 3rd time we've made the trip to Durham Cathedral, although the 2005 trip began at York Minster rather than at Selby Abbey. We set off on the Easter Bank Holiday Friday (6th April).

Find out about Yorkshire Air Ambulance!
  • Early evening on Friday - we left from Selby Abbey at approximately 4:00pm. cycled an easy, flat 25 miles stopping briefly at Riccall St. Mary's Church and York Minster for a photo shoot! Then onwards to the camp-site at Linton Locks just North of York - a gorgeous place by the river. We dined at the Blacksmiths Arms in Newton on Ouse; great food and beer! Craz and Gary had pitched the tents earlier in the day as a nice surprise to the group!

  • On Saturday morning we set off for the White Horse and a hill climb up and over the Yorkshire Moors - the support car carried our tents, equipment and a change of clothes to the campsite on the foothills at the other side of the Moors. There we camped in a lovely pub  beergarden, enjoyed another great meal and a few more beers before hitting the sack again.
  • Sunday morning, up early for a hearty breakfast and then set off down the bank into Middlesbrough, along to Hartlepool for lunch by the sea and then work our way inland to Durham Cathedral and the finish line!

The route was mainly traffic free - trundling through countryside, amazing views and some fabulous industrial architecture in Middlesbrough. We took it easy, plenty of time to do it. All riders felt exhilarated when they finished at the huge doors of the impressive Durham Cathedral.
