170 Miles in 3 days, from Edinburgh to Newcastle!

At the end of July we took a team of mostly novice cyclists on one of the most beautiful cycling routes in the country, the Coast & Castles route from Edinburgh to Newcastle. We did it to raise money for Sustrans, the organisation that give us the National Cycle Network and the Safe Routes to Schools Scheme. For more information on Sustrans, please click on the Sustrans logo to the right.

  • We met in Edinburgh City Centre on Saturday morning and set off for Berwick-upon-Tweed, approximately 68 miles away, taking in some beautiful countryside and coastal sections of this amazing route. We stopped for lunch near Dunbar before the afternoon section.

  • On Sunday morning, we left Berwick-upon-Tweed and headed for Alnmouth, some 50 miles away, where we stopped for the evening. We had lunch in the gorgeous town of Bamburgh, under the watchful eye of Bamburgh Castle.

  • Finally, when Monday morning arrived we set off for Newcastle, another 50 miles away. We  stopped for lunch in Cambois before completing the final section of this fabulous and scenic route.

Event Costs

As there were three accommodation options for this event there were three separate prices.

However, whichever accommodation option was chosen, all food was included from lunchtime on day one until lunchtime on day three plus riders received a specially designed Coast & Castles 2010 t-shirt from Sustrans!

This means that we provided riders with:

  • Saturday Lunch and Evening Meal
  • Sunday Breakfast, Lunch and Evening Meal and
  • Monday Breakfast and Lunch

The accommodation options and prices (per person) were:

  • Hotel (based on 2 people sharing a twin / family room) £145
  • Luxury Rock Tour Bus (18-berth with kitchen, 2 lounge areas, DVD, duvet & pillow) £110
  • Camping (you provide tent, sleeping bag, roll mat, etc - we carry it!) £85

Please note: Accommodation was for 2 nights, Saturday 24th July and Sunday 25th July. During the event, all of the riders' overnight luggage, including tents, sleeping bags and roll mats (if they were camping) was transported for them by support vehicle. They did *not* need to carry this with them during the day!
